I'm Goin'Back

I'm goin' back to my sunny mountain home.
I'm goin' back, nevermore to roam.
Memories of my boyhood are calling out to me.
I'm goin' back to my home in Tennessee.

Gone are my papa and my mama dear.
All the friends I knew are gone away.
But all the times we shared keep calling me back
To my Tennessee, never more to stray.

Just a boy of fifteen, I left my mountain home
For the lure of the cities and the lights.
Yet all I found was troubles and all I got was time,
Thirty years of struggle, work, and fights.

I remember how the pines used to whisper in the wind
And the mockingbirds singing all the day.
From a barefoot boy of wonder to a gray and lonely man.
Ain't it awful how the time slips away.

I'm goin' back to my sunny mountain home.
I'm goin' back, nevermore to roam.
Memories of my boyhood are calling out to me.
I'm goin' back to my home in Tennessee.
